This was
taken in Destin, Fla on the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day 1997. The "good
lookin', young guy" (VBG) on the left is yours truly, followed by Tom Godbold
and his wife, and Jan & Clarence Hinch. Tom & Clarence have probably
spent more time in the PI than anyone except a native! I think Clarence
said he had something like 26 years there!
I first
met Clarence in about '72 while I was still in the AF about the time we
build our first house in Carmenville. Tom was principal of Wurtsmith Elem
when I started working at Dod Schools in '78. Altho' I knew who he was
, we hadn't met before. We we having the Dod Schools in the Wagner Middle
gym. Tom came up and asked me where I was from. I told him, a little town
in SC that you've never heard of. He asked me which town, and I told him
Cameron. Imagine my surprise when he said he was from St. Matthews which
was only 9 miles away! We even knew some of the same girls, as Tom would
come to Cameron to chase after our 'girls'. It was certainly nice visiting
with them. |
