 I Wish I Was 8 Again

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year old again.

I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant.
I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks.
I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them.
I want to play dodgeball at recess and paint with watercolors in art.
I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.
I want to return to a time when life was simple.  When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were  blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.
I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good.
I want to believe that anything is possible. Somewhere in our youth, we matured and learned too much. There are nuclear weapons, war, prejudice, and abused children. Lies, unhappy marriages, illness, pain, and death.  A world where companies poison our water and our soil, and children kill.   What happened to the time when we thought that everyone would live forever, because we didn't grasp the concept of death? When the worst thing in the world was if someone took the jump rope from you or picked you last for kickball.
I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.
I want to return to the days when children played hide-n-seek outside instead of being glued to a  television, when video games were as harmless as Pac-Man...instead of spine-ripping, blood-splattering mind numbers like Mortal Combat, and TV still had some shows on that weren't about sex, killing, and lies.
I remember being naive and thinking everyone was happy because I was.  Afternoons were spent climbing trees and fences and riding my bike.
I never worried about time, bills, or where I was going to find the money to fix my car.  I used to wonder what I was going to do or be when I grew up, not worry about what I'll do if this doesn't work out.
I want to live simple again.  I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.
I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So....here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood.  And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause,
  "Tag! You're it."

Memories and Lessons
>But of all the things I have learned, big or small, even though through this reunion my life was enriched by meeting all you wonderful people, Is how empty I feel now that you are all gone.
Thank you Diane, for a wonderful time, it's definitely one for the memory book. One that I will look back on in the times I am sad for a bit of sunshine, one that when I need a smile I will see all the happy faces of the Wagner Alumni.
>With all my love... yes,... LOVE
>Mike Groves, AKA JazzGuy 76
<smile> Mikey.  Great email!  Wonder what your repayment will be <g>

Mike, that was so well put...gave me chills and I couldn't have said it better!! We are one big family and it's so great to have such listening ears and caring hearts!!
dbest76 (Debbie)Debbie,
It was great to meet you and spend some time together. I can't recall when your face wasn't smiling in San Antonio.

Mike, I feel the same way.  Being reunited with so many old friends and meeting new friends, makes me sad that I had to leave them all behind again.
The bright side....we will all see and talk to each other again! It was an honor meeting you, and finally meeting my friends from chat....Jen, Roggy, Cheryl (and can't forget about Mr. Cheryl '75')and meeting Mr. Susan (Steve) Beldon (ahhhhhh!) Ace, Tish, Jim, Shirley, Sony, and Dary ( who really puts on a good facade). Talking to Susan, Gaye, Diane, John, Donna, and
Ardis...all that I have met before, was especially wonderful.

A memory that will always be with me, is when we all stood and held hands, listened and then sang Amazing Grace for our fallen Falcons.   What a wonderful tribute to them!  Gave me goose bumps!

Lena75 (hope to see "ya'll" all in chat real soon!)

Great note Mike,

Isn't it funny how everyone that goes to a reunion experiences the same  emotions; how they discover class years and generation gaps are bridged to form easily one of the biggest and closest families on the face of this  earth. ALL my friends are getting very tired of hearing about ALL of you wonderful, terrific people.

Mike, I thorougly enjoyed meeting you and talking to you for ten/fifteen minutes. You are a new friend of mine and I'm very proud of that fact.

Peace and love to you, my new brother.

ps - are you really into jazz? i'm fairly new to it but like it a lot.

Hat Chicks Rock in SanA
Cool -- Those nutty Roaring Twenties hat chicks at the Friday cocktail party. Roundhouse Ruth Kent, Barbara Long, Diane Senn Howie Mandell, the little Char (somebody name the others.) You ladies of `65 looked super!
Uncool -- No hats Saturday night! I was thinking wide-brimmed classy models! More Cinderella's turning into pumpkins. Gotta get hold of this disquieting trend! Cidnerella's forever, babes. -- Dary `73

Rub it in, Beldon

Belden continues...two  full bathrooms - toilets and bath/showers on each  side of the enormous room with two gargantuan queen beds. These beds were so big KJ and her two kids fit in one easily.

But then again...who's counting:-). (gotta get my shots whenever I can)

ps - dary, by the way...you looked great on the E channel, watched you twice.

Reunion Memories-- of Mike Roth, the first day
Mike Roth, Class of 66 met Diane Smith 61, Gaye Perkins Parnell 74, and myself (Juanita Wade Wellman 74) in the lobby of the St. Anthony Hotel.  We were wearing different Wagner emblem t-shirts and he recognized us from those.  He said that he has been so excited about this reunion that he couldn't concentrate at work, he had not seen any of his classmates since he had graduated, and that his heart had been beating so loudly.  So, he took the day off and had his beeper on.  Mike is a very
nice, large built guy that looks as though he might be someone you wouldn't want to cross but what a dear he is.  I hope that brings a smile to your face if you are reading this Mike, and you know what is coming up on this post as well might as well laugh along with us, okay?

We invited Mike to join us as we had our luggage deposited into Donna's room temporarily and then we got on the elevator to go to the fourth floor suite.  Mike offered to carry a couple pieces of Gaye's luggage, a black tote bag that said something like "I love to teach," and large roll bag with hot pink flowers (it looked very much like a vintage 60s flower power print).  Visualize this large man carry these bags as you read this entry.  When we got off the elevator, a very jovial fellow greeted
Diane and she asked his name.  He replied "Felix."  Mike swung around and said "Felix," as Mike swung around, Felix yelled "Mike Roth!"  There was instant contact as the space between them existed no longer. Meanwhile, a door of the suite opened and a voice said "Ladies, you are being too loud."  It was the one and only Gary=85we (meaning, Gaye, Donna and I) rushed into the room giving all inside hugs and began visiting.  We had FORGOTTEN Mike in the hall.  Poor guy.  After his encounter with Felix, he turned and did not see us in the hall, he had just met us and did not remember our names, nor did he know which door we had entered.  Picture, if you will this manly man walking down the hall saying "ladies, ladies," and then he proceeds to go to each door, beginning with room 400 to try to locate people that he does not know, one door a little boy opened saw Mike standing there and screamed, slamming the door in poor Mike's face.

Eventually, Mike did find us at room 416.  Lena opened the door and said "I don't know who you are, but come on in" with her usual cheerfulness.

What a dear.  Mike saw the three of us in the room and relayed to us what had happened to him in the hall.  Needless to say, I know I felt sooooo badly for forgetting him, and hope that if you are reading this Mike, that all this weekend was a real blast for you.  (PS I saw you and you looked as though you were having a really good time.)  I am not finished with this post however, there will be more to come verrrryyyy soon.
:)
