Updated 20 August 2000
Dear alumni, faculty, administrators, family and friends,
Fighting Falcon #4
Planning for the great all years Wurtsmith/Wagner Reunion is almost complete.   All alumni associations will be involved with many volunteers helping.  As of 20 August 2000 we had more than 450 folks representing every Wurtsmith and Wagner Class from 1958 to 1992 on our Attendees List.   We expect well over 500 attendees.  We will have airlines offering discounted fares and a professional (brat/alumni) travel agent to support us.  Our weekend in San Diego and our optional trip to the PI and Clark will be filled with activities for both all years and specific year groups.  We will update this announcement often, but briefly, here are the plans:
What:  Wurtsmith Memorial Schools and Wagner High School Grand Reunion
Where:  San Diego, CA with an optional trip to Clark AB, Philippines
When:  26-29 Oct 2000 for San Diego and 29 Oct –7 or 12  Nov 2000 for Clark
Who:  All Years and all classes alumni, faculty, administrators, family, and friends
Sponsors:  ‘46-’65 Alumni Senior Teenclub, the Wagner High Online Alumni (WHOA), and  all sponsored alumni associations.

Below you will find a brief summary of the plans with links to separate San Diego 2000 and Clark 2000 information pages containing the latest available details for each event.

San Diego 2000
Wednesday, 25 October to Sunday, 29 October 2000
San Diego Activities:   Activities will be scheduled beginning with registrations and various informal socials for early arrivals on Wednesday evening.  Thursday we plan to continue registration and offer various optional tours.  We will also have many class and era displays along with an Anniversary Party for all hosted by the Classes of '60. '65, '70, '75, '80, '85, and '90.  Friday will have registration, hospitality suite get togethers, and free time.  Friday evening will include cruising around Mission Bay on a real sternwheeler and our casual “Mabuhay” party, with entertainment, music and dancing afterwards.  Saturday is open for socializing, tours, and more free time.  Saturday evening we will have our casual dinner.  More entertainment, skits, demonstrations, and talent shows will follow.  The evening  will finish with a concert by "Sha Na Na" followed by our “Homecoming” dance and live music.   Sunday will conclude with a “Farewell” brunch and closing/departure activities.  Individual year group associations will plan other events for their alumni.

Lodging:  we have signed an agreement with the beautiful Bahia Resort Hotel on Mission Bay to host our San Diego 2000 Reunion (25-29 October 2000).   The hotel is located close to SeaWorld and only minutes from the airport, the Zoo, Balboa Park, Downtown, and all of the other major attractions.  It is also within a short walking distance to the Pacific, and many shops and restaurants.

The Bahia has everything we need for the reunion including convention and multimedia support, catering facilities, a large restaurant, and a nice lounge/bar.  In addition, the hotel has two sternwheelers for scheduled and chartered cruises on the bay, and support for numerous water sports such as deep sea fishing, boat and jet ski rentals, etc.

We have initially blocked a large portion of their 325 rooms for our group.  The rooms range from luxury suites to beach side bungalows and standard rooms.  Our discounted rate is $129 (single) and $139 (double) per night.

Reservations can be made via their toll free numbers:  1-800-576-4429 or 1-800-288-0770 (Canada 1-800-233-8172).  These numbers handle both the Bahia and the Catamaran.  Mention Wagner High or WHOA to receive the discounted rates.

I recommend making your reservations as soon as possible since we expect to sell out the hotel by early summer or sooner.  Please see their website: http://www.bahiahotel.com/ for further information.

Lodging Update:  As predicted, the Bahia is sold out for our upcoming reunion.

Unless they have cancellations from our group, rooms will have to be gotten elsewhere.  I would still recommend checking with them first before making alternate reservations.

As announced earlier, we also have a contract with the nearby Dana Inn for the same basic rates:  $126 plus tax.  For reservations, please call 1-800-445-3339 (1-800-DANAINN) or 619-222-6440.  Mention Wagner or WHOA to receive our group discount.

The hotel is very nice and the rooms are comparable to the Bahia Resorts.  You can choose (subject to availability) either bayside or poolside rooms at the same rate.

The hotel is located at 1710 West Mission Bay Drive, San Diego, CA 92109-7899.  It is advertised as the closest hotel to Sea World.

Visit their website for more information:  http://www.danainn.com/

Sha Na Na Entertainment:  Sha Na Na has agreed to do a concert for our reunion in San Diego!!!

Most of you will know them as a great rock and roll show that specializes in comedy acts with a "Happy Days" flavor.  They had a popular TV show in the '70s and have recorded many records.

The group was composed of Columbia University students and to this day retains several of the original artists.  They are an extremely popular road show and have recently completed wildly successful tours of Japan and the Far East, California, and Louisiana.

We believe they would make a great addition to our reunion, and we hope that you do too!

The above is just a summary of our plans.  For specific details please heck our San Diego 2000 Page for the very latest planning, attendance, lodging, and registration information.

Following our grand reunion in San Diego, we plan an optional trip to the Philippines and Clark AB.

Clark Activities:  A charter flight on Korean Airlines (KE) will leave Los Angeles (LAX) early Monday morning 30 October for the PI.  We will arrive in Manila on Tuesday morning, 31 October and travel on to Clark the following day.   Free time, shopping, sight seeing, tours, parties and other activities will be planned throughout the visit.  These will include an optional overnight trip to Baguio, and visits to La Union, Manila, Corregidor, Subic, Mt. Pinatubo, and more.  One group will depart by charter flight on Tuesday morning, 7 November, and arrive Los Angeles (LAX)  by Tuesday afternoon, 7 November.  Or, you can choose to stay a little longer and return Sunday, 12 November 2000.

Miscellaneous:  You can cancel your trip at any time up until travel, however you may need to find a replacement beyond 45 days before flight.  Valid passports are required for the PI.  Visas will not be necessary for stays less than 21 days.  For information on obtaining a passport: http://travel.state.gov/passport_obtain.html

Tours:  Rajah Tours has put together some very nice tour options for us.  They include discounted lodging, ground travel, meals, and more.

Budgeting for the Reunions - Updated 23 June 2000

to help with your budgeting for the San Diego and Clark 2000 Reunion I am providing our best available cost estimates for San Diego, Clark/PI, and the combined reunions.  These are estimates only and should be adjusted based on personal preferences.  Actual costs will be based on many factors such as total participation, exchange rates, travel and lodging agreements and contracts, actual in-country transportation costs, etc.  Where actual cost is a personal decision, I have marked it so, even if it has an estimate.

San Diego 2000 - 26 thru 29 October 2000

Transportation to/from San Diego:  Personal, unknown
Meals:  Personal, 6 x ($10-$15) = ($60-$90)
Lodging:  3 nights - $129 x 3 = $387 + tax
Registration:  $125 estimated (includes 3 meals and entertainment)

Total Estimated Cost:  $572 - $602 plus air transportation and taxes

How to reduce cost:
- sharing a room will reduce your total cost by $200 or more!
- use discounted airfares
- pay registration early (it will reduce costs to everyone)

Clark/PI 2000 - 29 October thru 7 November 2000

Air Transportation:  $709
Ground Transportation:  $150 (rough estimate based on sight-seeing plans)
Meals:  21 x ($10-$15) = $210-$315
Lodging:  $100 x 2 plus $65 x 5 = $525 (based on 2 nights in Manila/Baguio, and 5 nights at Clark/Subic)
Outside Entertainment:  Personal, unknown
Registration:  $150 to $200 (rough estimate) includes 4 meals, Corregidor Trip, Baguio Trip, 4 sponsored parties, and entertainment.  May also include Pinatubo Trek, 100 Islands, and Subic trip. Other expenses:  Personal, unknown  (insurance, transportation upgrades, airport and entry fees, passport costs, immunizations, etc.)

Total Estimated Cost:  $1744 - $1899 plus outside entertainment and other personal expenses.

How to reduce cost:
- sharing a room will reduce your total cost by more than $250 or more!
- pay registration early (it will be cheaper)

Combined San Diego and Clark 2000

$2316 - $2501 plus stateside transportation, outside entertainment, and other personal costs.

How to reduce cost:
- sharing a room can reduce your total cost by more than $450!
- register early

How to increase cost:
- buy a lot of souvenirs
- register late
- lose your luggage
- miss your flight or worst, pay full fare
-------------------------

The above estimates are only estimates, but it should help to narrow down the potential costs.  I hope it helps.
